BHU PG Admission 2026: Spot Rounds Announced

The admission process for postgraduate (PG) courses at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has entered its final stage. Considering the large number of candidates registering for the spot round, the university’s Central Admission Committee has decided to conduct two spot admission rounds. Tuesday is the last day for PG spot registration. Seat allotment and seat-locking for the first spot round will begin on July 16.

8400 seats available in 150 courses

BHU had earmarked a total of 8,400 seats this year across more than 150 postgraduate programmes. Around 6,000 seats have already been filled in the four regular allotment rounds. Nearly 2,400 seats are still vacant, including those under various reserved categories, foreign student quota, BHU employee family quota and other supernumerary categories.

Based on the number of registrations received on the BHU Samarth portal, the university has decided to conduct two spot seat allotment rounds. The first spot allotment round will begin on July 16, while the second will continue until July 20.

Classes will start from July 30

According to the admission schedule, call letters will be issued on students’ portals from July 22. Candidates allotted seats in the first round and GDPI round must report to their respective departments and colleges on July 27. Candidates allotted seats in the second, third and fourth rounds, along with all spot rounds, will report on July 28. Postgraduate classes will commence from July 30.

Slow Portal Speed Becomes a Source of Trouble

Meanwhile, the slow performance of the admission portal continues to hamper undergraduate (UG) registrations at BHU. Apart from heavy server load, the process of fetching candidate data from the National Testing Agency (NTA) on the Samarth portal has also been sluggish.

As a result, many applicants are waiting for the registration process to become smoother before completing their applications. However, candidates have time until July 25 to complete UG admission registration.
