Nagpur: Delayed declaration of undergraduate final-year results by Nagpur University (NU) has started affecting admissions to its own postgraduate departments. While the university has started admissions under the 20-20-60 formula for PG courses, the largest share of seats remains vacant as the 60% home university quota is dependent on pending UG results.As of Tuesday, the NU exam section has declared 595 results, while another over 400 results, accounting for nearly 40% programmes, are still under processing. Except for BBA and BCom final-year results, no other major undergraduate (UG) course results have been declared, leaving thousands of students unable to participate in the postgraduate admission process.The university has reserved 20% seats for CUET-PG 2026 candidates and another 20% for students from other universities. The remaining 60% quota is earmarked for home university students, whose admissions have been held up due to the delayed UG results. Earlier, many NU students faced hurdles in securing admissions in other universities as their final year marksheets remained unavailable.Exam officials did not respond to TOI’s calls. Senate member Manmohan Bajpai said the postgraduate departments have been struggling to attract admissions over the last few years, and the delay is likely to further reduce the numbers.“The exam section must prioritise results of undergraduate final-year courses so that admissions do not drag on. The NU has received a good response for the 40% seats, but if it fails to commence classes on time, students who have already confirmed admissions may opt for courses elsewhere,” Bajpai said.Admission officials are waiting to finalise the centralised admission process once the UG results are declared. They plan to complete the CAP within a week of the results being announced.The university’s academic year has already begun, but classes for the new batches are yet to commence in affiliated colleges and PG departments. As per UGC norms, 90 days of teaching are mandatory every semester. With admissions still incomplete, the university’s PG departments may find it difficult to meet the stipulated teaching requirements.
