N. FIELDS WITH ABSOLUTELY HIGH LIMITS
Since noon yesterday (August 9th), universities have successively announced their 2026 admission scores.
According to the combined admission method, the cutoff scores for the majors at the University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) range from 76 to 100 on a 100-point scale, equivalent to 22.8 to 30 points when converted to a 30-point scale.
After nearly two months since taking the high school graduation exam , students learned the admission cutoff scores for many universities yesterday.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, the school’s Rector, stated that this year, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) major had the highest admission score, reaching a perfect 100 points, equivalent to 30 points on a 30-point scale. This was followed by Data Science with 91.7 points; Microchip Design with 90.5 points; Information Security with 88.7 points; and Computer Science with 88.5 points. Although the number of applicants decreased this year, the quality of the applicants increased. The average score of applicants this year was the highest in the past five years. “This shows the attractiveness of applicants with strong academic abilities and a clear orientation towards the technology field,” Associate Professor Khang added.
The Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s admission scores are both high and wide. The wide range is due to the scores fluctuating across a spectrum from around 9.5 (68 majors): the lowest being 20.06, and the highest 29.54 (based on the 2026 high school graduation exam scores, original subject combination A00). The high scores are particularly striking, with 3 out of 68 majors reaching over 29 points. Of these, 29.54 is the highest score ever achieved by the university for the Advanced Data Science and Artificial Intelligence program (IT-E10). Additionally, 14 out of 68 majors have admission scores above 28; 30 out of 68 programs have scores above 27; and 53 out of 68 programs have scores above 24.
Professor Vu Van Yem, Vice Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said: “The majors predicted to continue to have high competition all have very high admission scores, such as Control and Automation Engineering (EE2) 28.98 points; Microelectronics and Nanotechnology Engineering (MS2) 28.64; Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (ET1) 28.57 points; Mechatronics Engineering (ME1) 28.47 points. The new program launched this year, Computational Science for Intelligent Systems (MI-E22), also achieved a very high admission score of 27.97 points.”
This year, the Foreign Trade University continues to shock the world by setting a record for admission scores based on high school graduation exam results: the highest is 29.7/30, for the advanced program in International Economics ; 29.7 points (applied to the original A00 combination, other combinations reduced by 1 point). This is the highest university admission score ever recorded since 2023, when the Ministry of Education and Training began applying a new policy on priority points (linearly decreasing to 0 starting from 22.5). It is highly likely that no other university will break this record this year (using high school graduation exam results). The Foreign Trade University also has another major with an “extremely high” admission score (over 29 points): the i-Hons advanced program in International Business and Business Data Analytics, 29.5 points.
However, the cutoff scores at the Ho Chi Minh City campus remained stable (ranging from 26.8 to 28.5 points), while those at the Quang Ninh campus were still quite low (23 points). The majority of the university’s training quotas are concentrated in Hanoi, therefore it remains the university with the highest cutoff scores nationwide currently.
STEM fields attracted a large number of applicants this year, so the admission scores at most universities are high.
THE APPEAL OF THE TEM AND ECONOMICS SECTOR
According to Professor Vu Van Yem, the admission scores for training programs at Hanoi University of Science and Technology have generally increased compared to 2025, especially for STEM fields, due to the effect of the government ‘s scholarship policy and the demand of the labor market.
Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang, Head of the Training Department at the University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), said that the number of applications to the university this year has exploded, more than doubling compared to 2024. Notably, the admission score for the semiconductor engineering major reached 85.80 points for the standard program and 82.66 points for the program taught in English. Across the university, 57 majors/programs saw an increase in admission scores compared to 2025, with the construction group of majors also surprisingly having the highest increase, rising by 13 points compared to last year. “The major with the highest admission score is a newly opened major, showing the significant appeal of new training fields, especially the semiconductor field,” Associate Professor Thang further analyzed.
The admission scores for Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology also demonstrate the attractiveness of STEM fields. The average admission score for successful candidates this year reached 24.52. Notably, 61 out of 81 admission codes for the university belong to STEM fields, with 43 out of 61 STEM admission codes having admission scores of 22.5 points or higher.
The entrance exam scores for the Vietnam Aviation Academy this year also surprised many majors. Specialized engineering majors had cut-off scores ranging from 24 to 27.5 points. Cut-off scores for economics, management, and aviation tourism majors ranged from 23 to 26 points. Notably, this year the construction and STEM majors saw an increase of 4-6 points compared to 2025.
According to Mr. Cu Xuan Tien, Head of the Training Department at the University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), based on a 100-point admission scale, the 2026 cut-off scores for the university range from 65.01 to 90.01. The major with the highest cut-off score is International Business (specializing in international supply chain management and logistics) with 90.01 points – meaning candidates must achieve an average of more than 9 points per subject to be admitted. The entire university has 6 majors with cut-off scores of 85 points or higher, 19 out of 38 majors/specializations have cut-off scores of 80 points or higher, and only 5 specializations have scores between 65 and 70 (accounting for 13%).
The cut-off scores for the National Economics University fluctuated very little and remained highly stable compared to 2025. This year’s cut-off scores ranged from 23.48 to 28.84 (compared to 23 to 28.83 last year). Auditing took the top spot with 28.84 points (an average of over 9.6 points per subject). Majors scoring above 28 points were concentrated in groups such as auditing, e-commerce, logistics and supply chain management (28.53), international business (28.50), international economics (28.30), and management information systems (28.01).
GENERAL ADMISSIONS, ALL-ROUND EXCELLENCED CANDIDATES
According to Master Cù Xuân Tiến, this year the school received 38,828 applications from 20,518 candidates. Nearly 90% of the candidates applying to the school had excellent academic performance in high school. Notably, the average score of admitted candidates for the three subjects in the high school graduation exam was 25.23 points – equivalent to more than 8.4 points per subject. This is a very high score; nationwide, out of every 100 candidates taking the same subject combination, only a maximum of 7 achieve this score. In the D01 combination (Mathematics – Literature – English), the combination with the most candidates nationwide with over 330,000 candidates, fewer than 2 out of each candidate achieved this score. In the National University of Ho Chi Minh City’s competency assessment channel, 84.8% of candidates applying to the school had exam scores, with an average score of 802.6/1200 – an increase of 27.6 points compared to 2025. The highest-scoring candidate achieved 1,099 points. English proficiency set a new record, with 10,808 international English certificates submitted, including 9,622 IELTS certificates (average score of 6.29).
Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang also stated that this year the total number of candidates applying to the university with foreign language certificates has increased significantly, with approximately 30% of candidates having English certificates equivalent to IELTS Academic of 6.0 or higher.
The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) also announced its first-ever admission scores based on an integrated admission method using a 100-point scale. At the Ho Chi Minh City campus, the admission scores for various programs ranged from 70 to 97 points; at the Vinh Long branch, they ranged from 60 to 67 points. This year, the logistics and supply chain management major continued to hold the top position in terms of admission scores at the university.
Unexpectedly, the construction industry achieved a “peak” score of 28 points.
Among the northern universities that have announced their admission scores, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering surprised everyone this year with one major reaching 28 points (Control and Automation Engineering), while most other majors were only at 20 to under 25 points, and some majors at the Ho Chi Minh City branch even had scores as low as 16 points.
Meanwhile, the control and automation engineering major at the University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) has a cutoff score of only 27.78 (which is also the highest cutoff score). This university has a strong track record in engineering and technology, and in previous years, its entrance scores were generally among the highest-scoring engineering schools. This year’s cutoff scores at the University of Technology show a slightly different trend compared to other engineering and technology universities; the highest scores are not in IT-related fields but in engineering disciplines.
