Hyderabad: With the degree college admission season underway, Hyderabad Police have cautioned students and parents against fraudulent admission agents and fake promises of securing seats in colleges.
Don’t fall prey to scams, says police chief
In an advisory issued by Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar, IPS, students were urged not to fall prey to individuals claiming they can secure admissions in degree colleges through illegal means.
The police clarified that admissions to degree courses in Telangana are conducted only through the Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST) portal under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The advisory noted that some fraudsters are misleading students by promising guaranteed admissions in reputed colleges in exchange for money. Police said such claims are false and warned that paying money to unauthorised middlemen could result in financial loss and denial of admission.
Rely on official websites
Students and parents have been advised to verify all admission-related information only through the official DOST website and the respective colleges.
The police also appealed to the public not to share personal or financial details with unknown persons offering admission assistance.
Report fraud to 100 immediately
Hyderabad Police urged anyone who encounters such fraudulent activities to immediately report them by calling the emergency helpline 100 or approaching the nearest police station.
Authorities said prompt reporting would help prevent others from becoming victims of admission scams.
The advisory comes as thousands of students across Telangana are applying for undergraduate admissions through the DOST portal for the current academic year.
