The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 counselling process got under way on Monday (July 13, 2026) as the TNEA committee enabled the choice-filling option for the special reservation categories under the horizontal reservation for students who studied in government schools from classes VI to Class XII (7.5% reservation scheme).
The special reservation categories pertained to differently-abled students, candidates seeking admission under the sports quota, and wards of ex-servicemen.
For the differently-abled students, only 159 were found to be eligible for admission although there were 750 seats available under this category. In the sports quota, however, the scenario reversed with a total of 525 eligible candidates vying for 38 seats.
In the ex-servicemen category, 14 eligible students will be vying for 11 available seats, a TNEA release stated.
