Delhi University (DU) has introduced one-year postgraduate programmes for the first time from the 2026-27 academic session. The new courses are open to students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree from the university.

DU introduces 46 one-year postgraduate programmes
This year, Delhi University will offer admission to 46 one-year postgraduate programmes. The courses have been introduced for graduates who completed their studies under the university’s four-year undergraduate programme framework.
The move marks a significant change in Delhi University’s postgraduate education system, which has traditionally followed a two-year master’s degree structure. Eligible students can now complete their postgraduate degree in one academic year.
The newly introduced one-year programmes will offer more than 1,100 seats across different disciplines.
At the same time, Delhi University will continue admissions to its existing 74 two-year postgraduate programmes, which together offer around 13,500 seats.
With both programme formats available, the university will offer approximately 14,600 postgraduate seats during the 2026 admission cycle, increasing the overall intake for postgraduate studies.
Two-year postgraduate courses to continue
The introduction of one-year master’s programmes will not affect the existing two-year postgraduate courses. Delhi University will continue to admit students to these programmes through the current admission process.
The one-year courses have been added as an additional option for eligible graduates, allowing both one-year and two-year postgraduate programmes to run simultaneously.
