The University of Delhi (DU) has granted special permission to Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College to admit students to undergraduate programmes based on their class XII marks after several rounds of CUET UG counselling failed to fill all available seats.
The move marks an exception to DU’s standard undergraduate admission process, under which admissions are conducted through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) based on CUET UG scores. According to the two colleges, the approval has been granted solely to fill seats that remained vacant despite multiple rounds of counselling.
Following the university’s approval, Bhagini Nivedita College has begun accepting offline applications for admission to BA, BCom, BSc and a few other undergraduate programmes. Admissions will be offered on the basis of candidates’ class XII board examination marks, subject to the availability of seats.
The college has asked interested candidates to submit their applications by August 5, while document verification and fee payment will be conducted on August 6 and 7.
Vacant Seats
Officials from both colleges said they have been witnessing low enrolment over the past few years despite repeated rounds of CUET-based counselling.
Aditi Mahavidyalaya, located in Bawana, said nearly 40% of its undergraduate seats have remained vacant in recent admission cycles. According to the college, many girls from nearby rural areas do not appear for CUET, as their families are reluctant to send them outside their local area to pursue higher education. Consequently, several students with strong class XII results are unable to secure admission.
Similarly, Bhagini Nivedita College said a significant number of seats remained vacant even after the completion of the regular counselling process, prompting it to seek permission to admit students on the basis of class XII merit.
The colleges have clarified that the arrangement is a one-time measure and that CUET will continue to remain the primary mode of admission for undergraduate programmes at Delhi University.
