Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has suspended fresh
admissions to its University Students’ Hostel for the 2026–27 academic session. For, the hostel building is set to undergo major renovation and repair works expected to take around 12 months to complete.
The letter duly signed by Hostel Superintendents of Law College Premises Hostel and Post-
Graduate Students’ Hostel says, the decision was taken following a joint meeting held on July 30, 2026, under the chairmanship of the
Vice-Chancellor, with officials from the
Public Works Department (PWD) and the university administration.
The meeting was convened after the Advisory and Monitoring Committee, in its meeting on July 10, had recommended temporarily withholding fresh admissions until the renovation plan was finalised.
During the meeting, PWD officials informed the University that the construction and renovation work would require approximately a year to complete. Based on this assessment, the Vice-Chancellor directed that no new admissions be granted to the University Students’ Hostel for the 2026–27 academic year.
Existing students to be relocated
The University Students’ Hostel must be vacated to facilitate renovation and repairs. Of the 201 students currently residing in the
hostel, 95 (excluding students from the Law College) will be shifted to the Post-Graduate Students’ Hostel.
After accommodating the relocated students, the Postgraduate Hostel will have capacity to admit only 45 new students during 2026–27, comprising: 30 post-graduate students, 15 Under-Graduate students in the six-seated block.
The University has requested all students, parents and departments concerned to take a note of the decision and act accordingly. The suspension applies only to fresh admissions in the University Students’ Hostel, while limited admissions will continue at the Post-Graduate Hostel based on the available accommodation.
